目前菲律宾国立大学已俨然成为菲律宾第一学府、一所全方位领域之综合大学，由六个独立自治校区（UP
Diliman、UP Manila、UP Visayas、UP Los Banos、UP
Mindanao、UP College Baguio）及一个开放大学（UP
Open University）所组成，总共有56所学院并提供413个学位课程，目前拥有约4700个教职人员和约46000个学生，不但校区大、绿地多，且具有世界一流大学之风范，具集了全菲律宾所有精英学子于此。四个最大的校园分别位于Quezon
City（UP Diliman）、Los Banos（UP Los Banos）、Manila（UP
Manila）和Iloilo/Miagao（UP Visayas）。
经过了一个世纪的发展，菲律宾国立大学已成为一个「知识的中心」，知识在这里指的是对下一代的远见和关心，每位从这里学成而归的学子们将竭尽其所能，为人类的未来发展努力，一同创造更美好之未来。
所以不断的扩充校区内的软硬件设备，举凡各学院图书馆对学术刊物的广泛收集、多媒体及计算器教室的建置、学校校区各学院科系及学生宿舍间光纤网络的架设、学校网络连接至全球网络的设备扩充、与一些科技公司的技术合作等，在在的显示其对教育及学术研究的旺盛企图心。
菲律宾国立大学马尼拉校区是所有的校区中最早建立的，菲律宾国立大学最初创建的三所学院之一的医学外科学院亦坐落于此校区（后来更名为医学院），公元1910年，菲律宾国立大学成立了菲律宾国立总医院（Philippine
General Hospital），隶属于医学院；往后在公元1932年、1935年及1948年更先后成立了公共健康学院、药学院及牙医学院，这些学院在菲律宾国立大学迁移其管理行政中心至Diliman校区时皆继续留在马尼拉校区，使菲律宾国立大学马尼拉校区成为一个医学教育及研究发展的重要机构。
在管理行政中心迁移后，菲律宾国立大学马尼拉校区成为一个独立自治校区，于是其先后又成立了护士学院、联合医学专业学院、眼科学会、健康科学学会、国家健康医学专业教师训练中心、远距教学部门、研究所部门、分子生物及生物工艺学会、国家健康学会等，再加上科学艺术学院，使菲律宾国立大学马尼拉校区俨然成为一所综合性大学。
